Gary Tessler has a name and voice that are familiar to many Colorado residents and a career path that might seem unusual to some. A writer, actor, teacher, journalist, and radio personality, he wrote for the Denver Post, used insight and humor to address current events, and even hosted his own Emmy award-winning television show. Then, after a 25-year career in radio and television, he decided to embark on a new journey – one that would allow him to give back to his community.
He began serving as the Executive Director of Rose Hill Cemetery in 2003, helping Jewish families during their most difficult time. In 2005, he became the Vice President of Shalom Funeral Service, working to protect and honor the traditions of the Jewish faith, while helping and caring for families. He also completed the Bavli Talmud, a 7 ½ year study program, and the Shulchan Aruch Project Hichos Aveilus.
A lifelong resident of Colorado, Gary is committed to this community and its families. He and his wife Susan have raised their five children here in Denver, and Gary has spent much of his spare time working in community organizations, earning many honors along the way, and always striving to make a difference. Serving and helping others has always been a part of his life, and he’s honored to be able to do that at Shalom Funeral Service.
